Basics to Brilliance

Supervision Skills

Training Program

Most of us were never actually taught how to supervise

Did you find yourself in a supervisory role because you were the more experienced member of the team?

You're not alone.  When I ask this question recently, 60% of OTs had no formal training in supervision skills.

The Basics to Brilliance supervision skills training program helps occupational therapists develop practical, evidence-based supervision skills they can use in real OT supervision conversations.

I invited OTs to tell me what they wanted from supervision and supervision training.

I listened and I'm excited to share some changes with you.

So here is your revised program, I hope you find the access level that suits your needs.

September Cohort Starts:
14th September 2026
I am ready for Basics to Brilliance

Supervision Training, why do I need that?

You already deliver supervision to your colleagues or team but...

  • You've never had formal training or it's a long time since you did
  • You completed student supervisor training but different issues come up for staff
  • You realise you need a different approach for qualified and support staff
  • You feel exhausted by the end of the supervision session, often revisiting the same conversations
  • You leave supervision thinking, “I know I don’t need to fix this… so why do I feel like I am?”
  • You find difficult conversations hard to navigate, not sure where to begin, so you either avoid them or feel like you've fumbled them
  • It feels like a tick box experience, rushing through but not really focused on professional or personal growth
  • You're not sure on how to separate out the managerial and professional supervision within the session, it all becomes blurred
  • You’ve heard people talk about supervision models, frameworks and tools and quietly wondered what they actually are and how they would help

SOUND FAMILIAR, THEN YOU ARE IN THE RIGHT PLACE.

Now imagine leaving supervision thinking…

  • I knew what questions to ask
  • We had a conversation that actually moved things forward
  • I wasn’t carrying everything afterwards
  • I held space for them to explore and reflect
  • I had a framework to guide me without it feeling rigid
  • I know I’m doing a 'good enough' job

How good would it feel to KNOW...

  • How to prepare
  • What questions to ask
  • How to support development of clinical reasoning skills
  • When to challenge
  • How to structure supervision
  • How to navigate difficult conversations
  • How to separate managerial and professional supervision
  • How to give feedback

Instead of feeling that you are pulling supervision together from what you have experienced.  You’ve been borrowing bits from supervisors you’ve had. Some things worked. Some didn’t.

What therapists say...

💬 What worked particularly well for me was the online, self-paced format.

The training was broken down into manageable sections, each taking less than 20 minutes to complete, which made it much easier to fit around work and everyday life.

💬 The group discussion and Q&A sessions were a great place to think and reflect, providing opportunities to explore topics in more depth and hear different perspectives from others.

💬 Perhaps the biggest takeaway for me was the opportunity to reflect on my own supervisory skills and style.

It has given me greater confidence, fresh ideas, and a deeper appreciation of what effective supervision looks like in practice.

I want to feel like this

Basics to Brilliance

Supervision Skills Training Program

You can choose from three different ways to join us

This training program will create a space for you to think and connect to your practice.

Somewhere to ask the questions you have nowhere currently to ask:

“Could I have handled this differently?”

Somewhere to get feedback:

“Yes… I’ve had that conversation too... sounds like you handled that well”

Somewhere to reflect:

"What did you learn?...would you do the same next time or change anything?"

That’s why Basics to Brilliance isn’t just teaching.

It’s nine hours of live group workshops, learning together, reflecting together and applying what you’re learning to your own supervision conversations.

There is also pre-recorded learning available, to allow you to fit this around your work schedule, reflect on the evidence, models and frameworks.

You asked for:

  • Practical tools
  • Templates
  • Forms
  • Frameworks & models
  • Workbooks
  • Honest conversations
  • Community

  • Mentorship

You've got them 😊

You will also join a private community on my website where you can enjoy a virtual 'cuppa and chat'.

Mentorship is for me

Hi, I'm Lynsay

I have been a practicing occupational therapist for over 30 years and still love it. But I won't lie, over those years, I have experienced a range of supervision and in my early career probably delivered supervision that could have been better.

I have undertaken post graduate study in clinical supervision, I have created a long arm model of occupational therapy supervision and importantly I continue to deliver both 1:1 and group supervision for individuals and teams. I am also a supervisee, actively engaging in the supervision process myself.

When I first wrote this is the course, it was the one I wish I had been able to go on but didn't exist.

Then after running the founders cohort of Basics to Brilliance and listening to all your feedback, I have change this into a program not a course. Now you can choose which level you want to access that best suits your current needs and lets you choose the amount of personal support from me you need to develop your skills.

I want you to feel good about your supervision skills, to understand what good supervision can look like and you have the tools and framework to deliver it.

What other therapists say...

💬 Basics to Brilliance is a well structured and interactive way of building the supervision skills and knowledge needed both as a supervisor and a supervisee.

The use of research, practical examples and an extensive toolkit, along with facilitated peer discussions has given me everything I need to feel confident in this area of practice.

💬 Supervision models, I didn't know that was a thing.

In this world of evidence based practice, I have never used a supervision model before, I always just did what I've done based on the supervision I had received.

Now I can look and see why a model of supervision is helpful, it grounds my practice in evidence, tools and brings skills that make me an effective supervisor.

Everyone learns together

Because supervision isn’t something we master alone.

Every participant joins the live workshops and community discussions, where we learn from one another’s questions, experiences and reflections.

If you’d like more personalised support applying what you’re learning, you can choose a level of connection or mentoring that suits you.

I want to dive into this today

What makes this different from other supervision courses or programs?

This program offers more than a course that you attend, then go back to work and try to apply the knowledge into practice.

It gives you community, connection or mentorship while you are doing the learning, being the supervisor and belonging to a group of OT's all on the journey together.

You get to choose the level of access you need right now.

Everyone gets live workshops, an online community of supervisors, access to Lynsay OT supervisor, during and after the program. This enables you time to think and space to apply theory to practice while still in the program.

You can bring questions back to the community as you start having your new supervision conversations at work.

The level of access to pre-recorded learning you choose, depends on what you need right now.

The level of personalised support from Lynsay, OT supervisor, is also your choice.

You can tailor this program to meet your current needs and professional development.

If you start on one level and then want to have more personalised support, just reach out to Lynsay and this part of the program can be added on.

By the end of the course you will...

  • Create genuinely good supervision, a space to support the therapist in front of you no just manage them
  • No longer leave supervision sessions, feeling like you are carrying their load but that you helped them unpack it, review and reflect on it so they can pick it up again and work with their own plan
  • Be building supervision conversations that feel intentional
  • Have the skills to provide person centred supervision sessions
  • Feel empowered to build a strong supervisory relationship within your professional role and responsibilities

  • Have reflect on and developed your own supervisory style and be secure in your supervision practice
